Here are some interviews with Yilila from our DVD "Red Flag Jamajama". We wanted to post these online to give everyone an idea of where we come from and what we sing about. Our story is special to us and you won't here another one like it outside of our home community of Numbulwar in Arnhem Land, Northern Australia.
The Maccassan Traders from Indonesia. The beginning of Red Flag songs and Dances. They came to our country around 500 years ago and we learned language & traded with them. Some of our people went away with them on their sailing boats. Our Red Flag culture is about them, our flags come from the sails of the boats
